Living space

Planning an extension? Do you need to increase the surface area of your property without necessarily having to apply for planning permission? Do you want to create a space for your professional activity?

A light habitat is a living space that can be easily converted to extend your living area and gain precious square meters. Installation requires a serviced plot for connection to water and electricity. Concrete blocks, earthworks or foundation screws are all you need to lay the floor and timber frame.
This work will be carried out prior to the installation of the wooden construction.

This construction project will be either watertight, airtight, turnkey or even furnished.

setting up a studio

Do you own a plot of land or a garden and want to create a new living space, add value or turn it into a designer garden? The idea of extending your home can sometimes be frightening. Extensions and structural work are words that can put a stop to a project.

A timber-frame garden studio could be the ideal solution. This small house offers real additional living space. Rêves et Bois's ecological wood-frame garden studios are modern and feature large bay windows for a magnificent view of the outdoors and plenty of natural light.

Whether for tourism, extra living space, an office, a pool house, a summer kitchen or a sports room, the garden studio is a functional way of gaining extra square meters and creating a real living space that can be perfectly combined with an existing building while benefiting from the comfort of the insulating materials used.

Sustainable materials

Rêves et bois products stand out not only for their modern appearance and glass walls, but also for their insulating qualities. Much more than a Tiny House, the emphasis placed on insulation (triple glazing with SunGuard technology, reinforced wall insulation) makes it an energy-efficient solution that complies with thermal regulations and maximizes your comfort of use. Good light and insulation guarantee a pleasant, environmentally-friendly building experience.

By opting for this type of timber construction, you can build your home quickly and in a minimum amount of time, since the studio kit can be assembled in just a few days.

Our designs are standard, but if you have a particular timber-frame construction idea in mind, our architects can examine the feasibility of your request. So there's absolutely no need for you to call in an architect.

Frame, posts, framework and cladding are all made of solid wood, for quality construction that lasts. We select only the best wood species for our timber homes.

Our manufacturing techniques, joinery and quality frameworks ensure that your home is watertight and protected from the elements.

Planning permission?

The installation of a habitable garden studio of up to 20 m² will enable you to extend your home, and does not require planning permission, just a simple declaration to your local council.

Our constructions have a footprint of between 16 and 25 m², so you can benefit from the qualities of exceptional insulation, which saves you money in the long term. The unique design of our models ensures impeccable, pleasant living comfort in summer and winter alike.

Our larger models can also be built with a 20 m² footprint, freeing you from additional administrative hurdles and bringing your timber construction project into line with local town planning regulations.

It is possible to add a wooden deck, roof terrace or pergola, but in this case, other regulations may apply depending on your construction project. So make sure you always comply with the law and local planning regulations.

The models offered by Rêves & Bois are versatile, with layouts to suit a wide range of activities. As an extension to your home, the garden chalet can be used as a garden office, an artist's studio, a gym, a pool house, or even a small wooden house.

Our products are designed to optimize space, often with mezzanine options, and are made from eco-friendly wood-frame construction. These spaces can be custom-designed to meet your specific needs, whether you require 20m2 without planning permission, or more.

What's the difference between a garden studio, a garden office and a pool house?

‍Awooden garden studio is a versatile construction that can be used for a variety of activities and hobbies, such as work, relaxation, or art.

A garden office, on the other hand, is specifically designed to serve as a home workplace, offering a dedicated space to concentrate and be productive.

The pool house, meanwhile, is a separate building located near a swimming pool and designed to offer amenities such as a changing room, shower, or relaxation area.

Although these three structures have different functions, they all share the goal of optimizing and enriching the use of your property's outdoor space. There is no major distinction between the two, as creating a home workspace is simply one of many possible uses for your new living space.

If the idea of working in the heart of your garden appeals to you, explore our range of garden offices, which feature the models best suited to providing the right environment for your professional activity.

How to choose a garden studio?

First of all, determine the function of your new room. If you're planning sporting activities, such as weight training or dancing, sufficient space is crucial.
On the other hand, for work or artistic hobbies, you'll need natural light and a comfortable office area.

For year-round use, think about insulating the studio, and for overnight stays, consider a model with a mezzanine and bathroom.
These tips should help you make the right choice.

To make the right choice, consider the following aspects:

Purpose : Determine the studio's main use (office, leisure, gym, etc.) to select a model suited to your needs.

Available space: Measure the space you have available in your garden to ensure that the studio fits in harmoniously.

Budget : Define your budget to choose a garden chalet that matches your financial means.

Materials : Give preference to sustainable, environmentally-friendly materials, such as wood, for better integration into your garden.

Insulation : If you plan to use the studio all year round, make sure it has good thermal and acoustic insulation.

Layout : Consider the layout you want (mezzanine, kitchenette, bathroom, etc.) to personalize your space.

Regulations : Find out about town-planning rules and any administrative formalities (building permits, prior declaration, etc.) to ensure compliance with legislation.

By taking all these factors into account, you'll be able to choose the ideal solution for making the most of your outdoor space.

25 m² garden studio: planning permission or not?

You need planning permission to build a living space of over 20 m².

Up to 20 m², you only need to submit a preliminary building declaration and apply for PLU authorization.

Our garden studios are also available in a 20 m² version, if you wish to dispense with the need for planning permission.

Is it possible to build a garden chalet without planning permission?

Yes, you'll need planning permission and possibly a building permit (depending on the size of the model) to install this new living space.

The permit will need to be made up of a number of documents (certain forms, declarations and the like). Don't hesitate to consult this government link to understand the extent of your rights and duties.

Are garden studios delivered in kit form or assembled?

Each model will be different, and we advise you to consult the dedicated product sheet for each one.

If the model cannot be delivered assembled due to its dimensions, then we will either send a team on site to assemble the building, or provide you with detailed instructions enabling you to assemble the kit yourself.

Can a garden studio be used all year round?

That's right! Most of our products are insulated to ensure warmth and comfort inside.

With the exception of our bubble, we comply in every respect with the current RE2020 standard.

To find out more, please refer to the data sheets for each product, or contact our teams directly to find out about the technical specifics of each insulation.
